How I Built a Daily Current Affairs Habit That Stuck

Current affairs felt overwhelming at first — too much to read, too easy to forget. What finally worked was shrinking the habit down to something small enough that I couldn't skip it.

Every morning, I spent fifteen minutes reading a summary of the previous day's major news, focusing only on categories that typically appear in exams: government schemes, appointments, awards, and major national events. I ignored everything else, at least for exam purposes.

I also kept a simple monthly one-page summary in my own words, rewritten from memory every few days. The act of rewriting, not just reading, is what made facts actually stick.

The habit only became sustainable once I stopped trying to read everything. Depth in the right categories beats breadth across everything you can find.
